Why I want to be a teacher:
I have always wanted to be a teacher ever since I was in kindergarten, which is why I can't wait get into the classroom. I wasn't always happy in school, but I've always loved learning. I've been the kid in class that doesn't have a clue what's going on and the kid that is so far ahead of the class I want to cry from boredom. This gives me a very unique perspective on learning and teaching.

Education:
I am currently finishing my Bachelors of Behavioral Science with a focus in Sociology and my Elementary Education Licensure at the Metropolitan State College of Denver. Last semester I completed my first field placement/practicum at Trevista Elementary at Horace Mann Middle School with a 5th grade classroom. It was a challanging and rewarding experience for me and I will continue to work with this class in one of my next field placements as well. The field placement for math and science is still yet to be decided.
I can't wait to start my student teaching in the fall.

Work:
Currently I am the director for the St. Mary's after-school care program. This is my fourth year with the program and I have been able to watch the program grow and change. We typically care for between 45 and 60 children, planning activities and crafts for them. Prior to working at St. Mary's I worked for the Girl Scouts of Colorado as a camp counselor for two summers at Genesee Day Camp. Before I was able to work for Girl Scouts I spent many hours volunteering at different event in middle school and high school. I also completed two internship programs at the overnight camp in Bailey, Colorado in the summers of 2004 and 2005.
